Day 4...West Yellowstone

Breakfast this morning was prepared by Margie & Matt, pancakes, homemade syrup, bacon & hash browns! I told you we ate really well!!


Then we packed up and headed out to West Yellowstone started the caravan for the day. Our kids had never been and it had been 12 years since Matt and I had been. We were excited to see all the wildlife and have a great day.

Our first 'sighting' was a bald eagle...picture to come later.

The second was some buffalo in a field. We all got out of our vehicles and tromped on over to get a closer look. The kids thought it was pretty neat. They had seen buffalo before in South Dakota by Mt. Rushmore...but I think the Yellowstone buffalo are much bigger! Preston (Matt's Dad) made us all a little nervous when he turned his back to the buffalo to get a picture of us...YIKES!

We saw some elk in the distance, a river otter swimming, a few deer and a coyote. We heard there was a wolf in the distance but didn't see any bears! I am kind of happy about that!

The next 'scheduled' stop of Old Faithful geyser and lunch. Sandwiches by Derek & Ellen were on the menu with yummy cookies for dessert. The kids were troopers while we waited for the next 'predicted' geyser eruption. They played games and Ella had fun pulling her cute pig tails out. So...for the rest of the day she had pretty crazy hair!









Old Faithful started to erupt, but we were at the wrong spot. The wind was blowing our way so the steam blocked the water view. By the time the wind shifted it was done. Oh well, we still took some good pictures.

We headed over to the old lodge and the little girls fell asleep in their strollers! Too bad we didn't have strollers for all the kids...some others needed a nap too!

Then we started our loop to Mammoth Hot Springs and stopped at another Lower Falls of the Yellowstone Grand Canyon. Don't you just love the picture of all the kids on the fence rail!? It was the end of a long hot day, so not everyone wanted to cooperate...but some of the adults wanted to scream too!! :)

We had a lot of great picture opportunities...so we took advantage of them!

In the end we decided to skip Mammoth Hot Springs and just head back and grab some dinner. We stopped at the yummiest Pizza place called Wild West Pizzeria.

All the kids fell asleep on the way home and bedtime was a piece of cake!
