a *couple* days

It has been nearly TWO years since Matt and I have gone out of town together, overnight.

Last year we should have but we didn't.

This year...I surprised Matt on Valentines' Day with a weekend getaway.

Just to Denver...but it was 2 nights/3 days to ourselves.

My amazing friend, Jenni VOLUNTEERED (and told me were going to go for two nights, not one) to take all the kids for the entire weekend.

Never mind that she is 7.5 months pregnant and has her own two kids.

She is a saint.  Really, she is.

We ducked out of town around noon with no concrete plans, just excited of TOTAL freedom and to spend some much needed time together, alone.  We did some shopping on the way there and could barely keep our taste buds in check once we decided to eat at PF Changs for dinner.  Heavenly.  The food melted in our mouths and it was the perfect "kick off" for our weekend.

Our hotel reservation had me on the brink of a nervous breakdown...considering how my last reservations went!  THANKFULLY, it was perfect and $25 CHEAPER a night than the dive we stayed in last weekend.  Go figure.

Saturday morning we slept in (divine) had breakfast and headed out with our list of places to go.

We did some husband shopping and some wife shopping.  We decided long before we left for this little getaway that we were going to eat lunch at least once at Whole Foods.  Weird, right?  We were not disappointed.  Amazing.  Look at the salad bars, olive bars, bread choices and cheeses!

There was a "spring fun day" going on at the store and these guys were playing great music.  There were dances, kids games, samples galore and so much to see.  My lunch was SO good.  Colorful food is so yummy!  I really tried to eat healthy and keep on track with my food plan...I did pretty good for the most part!

A little more shopping, talking and laughing through the day and then we decided we wanted to see a movie.  We just punched in "theatre" to the GPS and drove to the nearest one.  It was in this sophisticated part of north Denver.  We bought our tickets and had about 40 minutes to kill so we walked over to Ted's Montana Grill and had appetizers at the bar.  We were seated right by the kitchen and it was fascinating watching the skill and craziness!  We had crab cakes with delicious onion rings and the best horseradish sauce ever!

Then we headed back to the theatre.  This wasn't your regular theatre experience.  There was VIP seating-which included a couch in the center of the theatre, your personal waiter during the movie and your own private bathroom.  Really?  We bought the "regular" tickets which were $12 each but it included UNLIMITED drinks and popcorn.  There was also a wine bar and small restaurant inside.  High class theatre, for real!

We saw the new Matt Damon movie, the Adjustment Bureau.

Excellent.

Then it was time to find a fun place for breakfast.  The Internet found a great little place that has been in business for over 20 years and in the top 10 restaurants for breakfast.  We went in the front door...as you would think to do at any other place.  The waitress told us the line was in the back....and we trekked through the customers to find ourselves at a long line for breakfast.  The family behind us have been going there 23 years and the little kids even knew the menu by heart.  All of the waitress and cooks knew nearly all of the customers and it was a great atmosphere!  Very fun.  If you are in the area, go eat at Breakfast Queen II.

trip happened at the perfect time.  Too bad this happened while still away...it isn't

very flattering.

we started heading north...to head home. I have been shopping for new cowboy boots for a few months.  Tall tops-13 inchers, roper heal, leather soles and PINK...that is what I wanted.

We went to a HUGE store called Sheplers and there were rows, and rows, and rows of beautiful boots.

Yep...I found the ones I've been wanting...and 30% off. 

(post edit: a coupon came in the mail TODAY for 25% off one item...at Sheplers.  Clearance and sale items included.  I called to see if they would honor the coupon over the phone...they said they will credit me the 25% on my purchase if I send the coupon to them with my receipt.  INSANE!  I'll pay under $70 for a $160 pair of boots!  Happiness!!)

OH...the are SO pretty and comfortable.  Now for a new pair of jeans (soon)

and a ride on that horse of mine.  Oh how I miss that boy.

We were trying to fight the realization that it was time to go home.  We missed our kids and I was convinced that Jenni was dying for us to come home...

One more stop at Whole Foods to pick up some ingredients for some new yummy meals and lunch.  I have been craving some Sushi...and settled for some Shrimp California rolls.  Wasabi...YUM!

The weather was perfect, nearly 60 degrees every day!  The company, perfect, of course.  Matt and decided that we HAVE to do this at least twice a year.  It is important to take a step outside our crazy real lives and spend that one on one time together and flirt and be goofy together.  The holding hands, silly happy grins and shameless kisses are sometimes forgotten in the craziness of raising four kids and our many activities.  We jammed out to a 90's station on the way home.  Those songs brought back so many memories of church dances, school dances and high school friends!

The kids were excited to see us...and hoping they had a few surprises at home.  They did.

It was wonderful and we can't wait to go again.  Next time...more museums, exhibits and movies.
