mowing, mowing, mowing

For years we have talked about mowing lawns to earn extra money during the summer/fall months.  This was finally the year that it all came together!  Summer is expensive!!!  This year we have scout camp, cub scout bear camp, a trip to Idaho and a trip to Washington.  Can you say...       a-lotta-moola?

We have seven lawns that we mow each week, and Morley mows the majority of them on his own!  He isn't too thrilled some days to mow...but it is paying for a lot of fun activities so he suffers through it.  A smile has yet to hide when he is handed the money for his hard work!

His mode of transportation...his bike!  Sometimes Matt will drop off the mower/edger/tarps/gas at a house in the morning on the way to work and Morley will ride his bike and mow and I'll DRIVE and do the edging.  Matt will pick up everything at lunch and haul it to the next place.  Coordinating the mowing days with all of our activities is sometimes difficult, especially when the weather doesn't cooperate.

As parents, we hope this experience helps to build a good work ethic.  He has been able to pay for ALL of his scout camp and the bear camp for Drew.  We opened a special "mowing account" to keep the funds safe...and we are excited we'll be able to do all of our adventures this summer!

Wish you lived closer and you could add ours to the list! What a great way to earn money for the summer. Great way to teach him how to work and see the rewards!

SO glad Morley is mowing lawns and earning money!! I am especially happy because you are headed my way and we get to see each other! Sadly its only for a day (well and maybe a full night of chatting), but I will take it and be happy! 6 years is a long time to go with out seeing you! I miss you every day and long to just come over and hang out! But for now I get to look forward to spending a day with you and the kiddies! What shall we do?! Must be fun, of course, we have to entertain 6 children! Love you and see you soon!!

We were hoping to have Justin mow some lawns, but it's not happening this year. He is doing ours which is nice, but that's just money coming out of our pocket into his. I think it's great that Morley is working and learning responsibility! Tell him he will be the boss soon once he gets his younger brothers working for him!

This is just the beginning of learnng to work for the things the wants to do. Great way to teach him that money doesn't grow on trees! I can't wait to see how he does on our lawn! He'll appreciate the small yards. Nice job everyone!
