Cub Day Camp

The entire day was COLD, RAINY and WINDY and only 45 degrees.  Despite the yucky weather, these TEN boys had a fun filled day! Our opening flag ceremony was neat.  The flag that was raised on the pole was from Iraq and had not been flown since leaving the war, until that morning.  WOW!

Matt and I were able to go together Ray, our wolf/bear leader.  I was wearing my Webelos leader "hat" and also trying to help our four new wolf scouts.  I was excited to have two of my new Webelos there.  Morley and my nephew Tadj were "helpers" for the day, assigned to the pop bottle water rockets.  It would have been the BEST station...had it been warm weather instead of the cold.

The boys did archery

and an egg drop.  The boys were divided into pairs/groups and given a raw egg.  They were allowed to "package" any way the wanted to, with the goal of keeping it protected from the 60 foot drop.  Matt was "helping" at this station all day and Brayden and Drew ended up being in the same group!  I was very happy about that since this is Brayden's first year and a Tiger cub scout.

They did a great job and even made a parachute on their box!  After opening the box after the drop...it didn't break!

BB shooting is always a HUGE hit with the boys.  They were able to do 15 rounds each!

Morley & Tadj enjoyed being the "big BOY SCOUTS"

At the end of camp, we had a flag retiring ceremony.  There were four VFW's who attended and presented the flags.  We were given the history of the flags that were being retired and educated on why they should be burned.  It was very emotional for me and many other adults to watch.  Some of the flags had been torn for the ceremony and many of the cub scouts were able to take one and place it on the fire.  Brayden was one of them, which was neat.

As the flags were burning, we were told that it was customary when there are Veteran's in attendance to call out the names of those who are serving, who have served and also those that died serving our country.  I called out my grandfather and Matt's grandfather's name.  I'm not sure if anyone heard me, I could barely talk as my emotions were taking over.  Even the little cub scouts were calling out names.

The scout master stood watch over the fire until every last piece of the flags were completely burned.

It was a really fun day with these crazy little boys!  They kept their spirits up and had fantastic attitudes even though they were a little wet and cold.

what a bunch of goof balls!

What a great flag ceremony. Your boys are getting such a great experience and education through scouting. That's so need that you remembered the family who served our country. Very cool day camp. Mom
