Our drive to Washington was an adventure. As if driving 20 hours one way wasn't enough of one. We left about 6:00 in the morning and had on our schedule to drive 11 hours to Bozeman, Montana. About 2.5 hours from Bozeman....just outside Billings on an Indian Reservation we blew a tire. We are so thankful that we were okay and that Matt was driving. He changed the tire to the spare on the side of the road in 101 degree heat in the middle of the afternoon. We scooted along on our doughnut tire for 40 miles going 40 miles an hour. We had to buy a new tire for $137 and they couldn't figure out why we had the blowout. While Matt was getting the tire fixed the kids and walked down the street to Burger King to enjoy a little break and $.50 cones. We were on our way after a bit and rolled into Bozeman in time to order Papa John's Pizza to our room and then enjoy some pool time. We were all exhausted after a LONG day and needed our sleep to drive another 9 hours in the morning.
Thursday morning we enjoyed a good free breakfast at the hotel and hit the road again. We jammed out to Guns 'n' Roses and other rock music in our excitement to reach our destination that day. Thankfully we didn't have any other car issues.....but the kids were getting restless. We had beautiful scenery and enjoyed our drive across Montana, Idaho and Washington. When we passed through Spokane, WA we stopped by Mom and Dad's new house and gave ourselves a tour! It is gorgeous! Then we had lunch at a beautiful Thai restaurant that had a cool movie prop in the foyer. Along the journey, Morley needed a little help in restraining himself against bugging his siblings. I was happy to assist. Too bad it only lasted for a few minutes. Finally we rolled in to North Bend, WA. It welcomed us with beautiful mountains, trees as far as the eye could see and all the familiar spots of my hometown. Almost everyone was home when we arrived and hugs and tender mercies poured from heaven. It was a wonderful start to our vacation!
