Drew said he had an "amazing" birthday! PHEW! We all slept in....accidentally. As a result Mr. birthday had to wait until after church to open his presents. It was a great Sunday. During third hour we attended a Priesthood Preview with Drew and his Deacon's quorum. It was a wonderful hour with him and I could feel his excitement to receive the priesthood next Sunday. He had his Bishop's interview today after church and he "passed". He is such a good young man who makes great choices and wants to do good.
The plan was to hurry and do his birthday pictures after church since we ran out of time yesterday. Well, the weather had other plans and it turned terrible fast. Wind, rain, snow and more wind. Perfect timing to gift opening! He was so happy with his gifts and very gracious! We decided to do his pictures another day....then it cleared up. Drew and I headed out into the wind and COLD weather to take the traditional pictures with mom. He was a trooper and we captured a few keepers. It was hard to get a genuine smile from him without the "I'm freezing" smile. He was frozen by the end of our 25 minutes.
His special dinner request was fried rice, pork chops and a salad. The salad was a surprise, he isn't by veggie loving boy. While everything was cooking our home teacher came for a visit. It is so nice to have him visit regularly! It was time for dinner soon after Brother Hill left and Drew was in food heaven! He didn't want another cake so he asked me to make his individual brownies with Reese's peanut butter cups inside topped with marshmallows. YUM!
Drew was able to talk with family and feel very loved by everyone on his special day today. We sure love the young man he is becoming and can't wait to go this journey with him. We love him so much and so happy he is a part of our family. Drew is loyal, loving, helpful, smart and so much more. He is a joy. One of the best things about working where my kids go to school: getting hugs from each of them all day. Drew is especially affectionate which warms my heart. I don't think too many 12 year olds love to hug their mom in public. Melt my heart.
Love you Drew-b! Happy 12th birthday!!
