Sunday night we had our good friends Mitch, Elaine, Sam and Drew over for dinner. Sam and Drew (their son is a breeder) brought this darling little puppy with them to just "show us the breed" because Matt was curious. A few hours later...he was ours. We immediately fell in love with him. He has the sweetest dispostion, mild temperment, does not shed sheds a little bit...and is already house trained and crate trained. It was amazing to watch him in our home on Sunday. With 10 people milling around, including our four kids he was as calm as could be. He is a perfect match for us and we are so happy to have him in our family.
His breed is a Pudelpointer, which is a cross between a German hunter poodle (pudel) and an English Pointer. If fact, his Grandfather is from Czechoslovakia . He is a "short hair pointer" mix which I love. A lot of the other Pudelpointers are very shaggy and wiry. He is 14 weeks old and so smart. Matt started his hunting training on Monday morning, which of course has Matt on cloud nine.
He had big fuzzy feet that he'll grow into. They are almost as big as Ella's hand!
What a difference it makes to have a dog AND some land! It has been almost two years since we have had dogs and we have missed it. Yes, me included. I do adore him and he is my little buddy all day long. You can also find him curled up with Ella having a nap.
As you can see....the kids are also in love. Morley hasn't stopped smiling since Sunday. Drew told me on Monday after school that he is just "happier" because we have a dog. They all have quite an attachment to him already.
Sam's son named him Romeo because he is such a lover. However, Sam couldn't bring himself to call him that and settled on Little Dog. Romeo wasn't our favorite either, so the name debate started. We all wrote down names we came up with on a piece of paper and voted for our top three last night. Moose, Koda, Ruger, Finn, Chaz, Fritz, Scout, Maxx.....Deacon won in the end.

Okay, that is the cutest dog ever! The breed sounds wonderful and a calm temperament...perfect! Dare I say I'd like one?! ;)
That is one cute dog. I can't wait to meet him. I like the idea of a calm dog...and a trained one.

How does Matt train them to hunt? And does he (deacon, not Matt) run away when you let him out - your lot isn't fenced, still, right? If he doesn't run away, how did you get him to stay in the yard?
