Family garden day....

On Saturday we finished planting our garden.  Well almost, we still need to plant the peas.  We have three garden boxes that Matt built and then planted the corn, pumpkins, squash, watermelon and cucumbers in the ground.  We have strawberries, peppers, beans, carrots, radishes, green onions and tomatoes in the boxes.  The best part, Matt put the entire garden on a drip system and timer.  Watering is a breeze....I don't even have to do it!  We've had a lot of rain recently so we'll have to get after the weeds that are starting to sprout in the dirt.  grrrr.  My boxes will be weed free so that will be nice.  Matt also bought a "cultivator" attachment that we can put on our weed eater motor so that will be nice to keep things fresh and weed free.  We hope these changes will make a big difference to our garden experience this year!

After we were done, Matt and Brayden decided to take advantage of the wind that has been relentless.  They figured out our "trick kite".  They had a lot of fun and Brayden even took a turn.  It was strong and nearly picked him up off the ground!  We decided to head out to the ranch for dinner, we haven't been out there forever and Elaine really wanted us to come too.  The kids were excited and referred to their new house out there as their "second summer home" which of course thrilled Elaine and Mitch to hear.  They climbed a big tree, fed an abandoned calf, caught a turtle and roasted marshmallows.  We also met their new interns Chandler and Matt.  It was a super fun evening and we didn't head back home until 10:30 pm.  We'll head back out there on the 12th for a branding.

Monday night Morley had 10 of his friends from school over to watch a movie outside and enjoy a fire.  We were afraid the weather would spoil our plans but it turned out to be a perfect night.  We watched Avengers and enjoyed s'mores and other snacks the kids brought.  I am so glad they enjoy coming over and we look forward to many, many more get together and kids hanging out at our place!  We really want to be a "destination house" for our kids.  I feel that is what my parents had and I feel strongly about doing it for our kids.
