My dad comes for his annual visit to see us every fall. This year my mom decided wouldn't be left out and booked herself a flight and surprised the kids! I nearly spoiled the surprise on many occasions during the week prior to her arrival. On the Saturday she was arriving, it was also a Bountiful Basket day. There was a terrible snow storm, delaying the truck but people were still coming to the house too early. We would go out and tell them the truck was late....and when mom pulled up to the house it was the perfect opportunity to have Drew tell that car "that the truck was late" because of the weather! What a fun surprise to see NANA in the car! Brayden was deer hunting with Matt so his surprise was delayed a few hours. Dad came Sunday evening and we had a great visit during the few days they were in town.
On Monday Matt arranged for us to have a double date, in a duck blind, with Morley as our chaperon. It was 4:30 am when we left the house and zero degrees outside. Thankfully the blind was in the ground, with a heater! It was my first hunting experience and we had a good time. After we warmed up, we waited for the birds. Matt was our master caller. We had a few opportunities to get some geese but only brought one down. While we waited for more, we ate some food (cooked on the stove inside the blind), drank some hot cocoa, waited for birds, talked, laughed, and really enjoyed our time together!
We went home for lunch, and a short nap. Morley and I decided to go back out with Matt and Dad for the afternoon hunt, hoping for more birds. Mom stayed home to wait for the kiddos to get home from school. When we pulled up to the blind in the truck, there were a lot of ducks and some geese with the decoys. Matt managed to get out of the truck and load his gun without scaring them all off. That was exciting. In the end we brought home four ducks along with our one goose from the morning. We saw a lot of geese high in the sky during the afternoon but only had a good shot a few times. It was fun being in the blind with Matt when the sun came up and when the sun went down!
We went to Bridgeport for a family dinner after hunting. The restaurant was a little disappointing even though Matt and I loved it when we ate there for our anniversary. It was fun being together and we even ventured out and ate "rocky mountain oysters". Interesting.
I also took Tuesday off of work to do rental work with mom and dad. It was also Morley's first day at Leyton. I was a little anxious all day worrying about him and praying he was having a good day. He was a little indifferent at the end of the day but I think it was better than he expected. We ate our goose and duck for dinner and enjoyed playing some Wackee Six together. Mom and Dad had to leave Wednesday morning and we couldn't miss another photo opportunity. We love when we can see them and cherish the time together! It is always a special treat when they visit and we love them so much!
